Say Hello To Allen

Compassionate and caring. He would do anything to help those around him. Allan is a hard worker and a good student with dreams of bettering the lives of others. With his steadfast faith and his determination, there’s no doubt his dreams will become a reality.

Allan is one of the sweetest boys in the orphanage with the greatest smile. Allan has been in the orphanage for the last four years and we are still learning more about his story. He is the third born in his family; he has two older brothers and a younger sister. Allen’s parents both died of HIV. His aunt and uncle both suffered from mental illnesses and disappeared separately for so long that they were presumed dead. This left Allen, his brothers, his sister, and three of his cousins in the care of their elderly grandmother. The seven children and the grandmother lived in a small, two room hut made of mud with a thatched roof. The responsibility of taking care of the family oftentimes fell on Allan and his two older brothers because the grandmother was too weak to care for all of them. There was not always enough food for everyone to eat and going to school on a regular basis seemed like an unattainable dream for Allan. Our partners in Kitale were notified about Allan’s cousin, Sharline and when they went to pick her up, Allan was the only other child at home. Sharline refused to go until they agreed that Allan could come also. Now that Allan is safe and thriving in the orphanage, he has his heart set on helping others. When he is all grown up, he aspires to bless the lives of the less fortunate the way his life has been blessed. He is gracious and incredibly grateful. His laughter is contagious and he has a soft gentle voice. He loves school and he loves being with all of his friends and his cousin, Sharline, in the children’s home. Allan is a light to everyone. He is truly one in a million.
